The month of Ramadan is upon us, in which the Holy Quran was revealed. This is a month full of greatness, excellence, and wisdom; it cleanses and polishes human consciousness. When a person stays hungry and thirsty only for the sake of Allah, his spirit soars upward into the vastness of heavens and touches its ultimate heights. It is an effective way to increase a person’s spirituality. It is an unbreakable shield that protects us from sins. This is also a training program, which prepares us and our consciousness for the rest of the year until the next Ramadan. What really matters at the end of this training program, is a simple question that all of us should ask ourselves, “what is our take away from it?”. In general practice, we attend training programs so that we can apply the methodologies and enhance our lives. Ramadan in a lot of ways is the same, we learn how to control our hunger, and keep steadfast in terms of lying, slander etc., because we are fasting. Throughout the year we move away from the mindset, that we acquire in Ramadan, and this is why it comes every year to renew our self and train our minds. This is why the verse in Surah Baqra says we have prescribed fasting to you so that you become of the people who have mastered self-restrain or in other words are cautious. This means to create a habit of caution before we take any action and just think and reflect that would I do it while I am fasting, then perhaps we should not do it at all.
In this blessed month Hadhrat Jibraeel [‘Angel Gabriel’] recited the Holy Quran to the most honored among prophets, the Seal of Prophets, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and would in turn listen to the Holy Quran recited by the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
We should also recite the Holy Quran, slowly and with understanding. This creates a bond between Allah and His servant stronger. Open your hearts and help the poor, the widows, the orphans and the needy. Allah’s Prophet (PBUH), who was the image of generosity and kindness, gave all the more generously during the month of Ramadhan.
Come let us pledge that following the blessed practice of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), we too shall help our poor brothers in Humanity in every way possible.
